internet explorer - How was this website made, what's Frontpage 5.0? -
a friend of mine had "a friend make website" her, person no longer contactable, asked me "why looks different in firefox , links don't work".
looking @ source, seems have been made "frontpage 5.0" has "microsoft office" xml namespace.
what find interesting apparently checks browser , if not ie, outputs website made of large, bad looking .gifs on which, not surprisingly, links don't work.
here site: http://sprachschule-polyglott.de
i'm theoretically interested in how site made, , thought might interesting others, perhaps example presentation of bad old days of internet, relic last decade's browser wars.
can tell me how site made?
- was made frontpage 98?
- or export-to-website output version of microsoft word?
- i used frontpage 98 in 90s don't recall output "an alternative website .gifs" netscape. that's pretty non-compatible day. know how background method of "browser compatibility", option in frontpage or microsoft word "render graphics non-ie browsers"?
the website (thank finding - it's gem) created using microsoft publisher 2003 frontpage 2002 server extensions.
even though wikipedia says there no frontpage version 5, not totally correct. this frontpage fanboy (who have thought existed?) labels frontpage 2002 version 5. frontpage 2002 delivered office xp , according official microsoft page version of office xp frontpage 2002's release version 10.2623.2625
- wikipedia has right... weird.
searching google find many references "frontpage 5.0" or "frontpage 5.0 web object library" - mystery continues, heck frontpage 5.0?
frontpage server extensions rescue! frontpage 2002 server extensions have version number 5.0.2.6738
. first mystery solved.
so why website render gif in firefox , regular website in internet explorer? microsoft publisher rescue! (lot's of rescuing being done here...) ms publisher had ability publish website vml, gifs html. in case of our website-friend here microsoft publisher 2003 outputting "filtered html" - how know? "filelist.xml" , vml code gives away. microsoft publisher blog post has list of publisher created website explanation on how find out version of publisher used:
if produced in publisher's "filtered" html (lightest page), , see lots of vml/xml code , "filelist.xml" in first few lines of source it's 2003.
to sum up: website created using microsoft publisher 2003, outputting "filtered" html. server website running on, using frontpage 2002 server extensions.
ps: wrong last part (server running server extensions) - maybe microsoft publisher used frontpage 2002 server extensions render html , hence generator "frontpage 5.0"
